Environment Canada is warning Flin Flon may be at risk of a rare weather event – a possible funnel cloud.

The alert says weather conditions Wednesday are “favourable for the development of funnel clouds.”

The advisory lists the conditions as slow wind rotation under weak thunderstorms or fast-growing clouds.

“This weak rotation is normally not a danger near the ground,” according to the alert. “However, there is a chance that this rotation could intensify and become a weak landspout tornado.”

Funnel clouds and tornado advisories are rare in northern Manitoba and Saskatchewan.

No reports of funnel clouds in northern Manitoba have been made since a pair of small twisters in Thompson in 2010.
