Flin Flon advances in provincial sled vote

For the second year in a row, Flin Flon has moved on the final provincial round in the SnoRiders Sledtown Showdown competition.

In an all-northern provincial semifinal, Flin Flon earned 64 per cent of an online vote against Snow Lake, winning with 2,274 votes to Snow Lake’s 1,291.

The community will take on a traditional northern rival in the final round of the Manitoba competition, with Thompson moving on to the final from the other side of the bracket. Thompson narrowly defeated The Pas in a near dead heat. – 1,512 votes to 1,492.

The annual competition is hosted as an online fan vote by snowmobiling magazine SnoRiders as an attempt to find western Canada’s premier snowmobiling destination. Last year, Flin Flon emerged as the winner of the poll for Manitoba, moving on to a western Canada-wide online vote against Tumbler Ridge, B.C. before coming up short in the final round.

The winning community will receive a trophy and a series of feature articles in SnoRiders throughout 2020.

Voting for the final round of Manitoba’s competition began Feb. 20.
