Federal election: Vidal slated to win northern Saskatchewan

The Reminder and the Canadian Press’ projection for Desnethé-Missinipi-Churchill River says Conservative candidate Gary Vidal is likely to represent northern Saskatchewan in Ottawa.

The candidate has ran away with the Desnethé-Missinippi-Churchill River riding. With over one-third of all polls reporting, the Conservative party candidate leads his closest competitor, NDP incumbent Georgina Jolibois, by over 2,300 votes as of 10:25 p.m.

With 75 polls reporting as of 10:30 p.m., Vidal has over 50 per cent of the vote share with 5,268 votes. Jolibois sits second with 2,230 votes, while Liberal Tammy Cook-Searson is in third place with 2,195 votes.

Saskatchewan has voted overwhelmingly Conservative in this election – no other MPs from other parties appear likely to win their races.

The NDP’s Niki Ashton has won the northern Manitoba riding of Churchill-Keewatinook Aski.

The Liberal party is projected to form a minority government.
