Travel group Expedia has given Flin Flon some recognition for its illustrious hockey history.

The group’s website named Flin Flon to its list of 22 “must-visit hockey towns” throughout Canada and the US. Flin Flon was featured in a similar list by Expedia in 2015. Now, four years later, the company revamped the list, updating each entry and keeping Flin Flon in elite company.

Expedia chose to highlight Flin Flon’s long history with Canada’s national winter sport, including the more than nine decade run of the Flin Flon Bombers, as well as homegrown legends like Bobby Clarke and the other 17 Flin Flon-born players who have played at least one NHL game.

“This mining town knows a thing or two about hard work, and they put that same determination to the ice,” reads the article.

The list includes both big cities and small towns, ranging from Gravenhurst, Ont., Thunder Bay, Ont. and North Cowichan and Duncan, BC to NHL markets like Edmonton, Minneapolis, San Jose and Vancouver.

“When we were building our list, we wanted to give attention to hockey towns that have both a strong past and an exciting present,” said Jennifer Cuellar, the travel writer behind the article.

“With Flin Flon being the home of legendary Bobby Clarke and the home of the Bombers, it more than earned a top spot on our list.”

It is the second time in as many months that Flin Flon has been featured in a list by Expedia. In December, Expedia chose the community as one of its 15 top fishing destinations, highlighting ice fishing, the lake trout, pike, burbot and whitefish in the water around town and the annual Flinty Fishing Derby.
