More cases, more communities. Eight new confirmed COVID-19 cases, along with one presumptive positive case, have been reported in northern Saskatchewan in the past 24 hours.

Out of the eight new confirmed cases, all eight have been reported by the province in the far north - five in La Loche, three in Beauval.

Ten new recoveries from the disease have been reported. There have been 590 total cases of COVID-19 reported within Saskatchewan since the outbreak began, with 176 active cases of COVID-19 still ongoing. Out of the 176 cases remaining, 147 cases are active in the far north, while 165 are in northern regions.

Nine people are in hospital province-wide with COVID-19, including three people in intensive care.

Saskatchewan is on pace to top 40,000 total tests for the disease by the end of the long weekend, currently sitting at 39,233 total tests during the outbreak.

On top of the new cases, the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) reported a presumptive positive case in the Lac La Ronge area May 14. A person in their 60s was reported by SHA to have developed symptoms May 13 and been tested in La Ronge.

Along with the announcement came a list of places where the person had been in the two weeks before developing symptoms. The person was listed to have been at the Fire Creek Gas Station in Saskatoon May 4 and at five seperate La Ronge-area businesses - the Co-Op Gas Bar May 4-11, Robertson Store May 11, Keethanow Supermarket May 5-8, Keethanow Gas Bar May 4 and at Craving Restaurant May 1-9.

Anyone who attended these locations is asked to self-monitor for COVID-19 symptoms, including for fever, headache, chills, coughing, a runny nose or sore throat, shortness of breath or a lack of taste or smell.

Some good news came from SHA Friday, with one of the province's three remaining outbreaks being cancelled. An outbreak at a hospital in Meadow Lake, called after a single case was found at the hospital, was called off.

Three outbreaks remain active in Saskatchewan, in Beauval, La Loche and Lloydminster respectively.
