Three of the Flin Flon/Creighton area's five schools reported COVID-19 cases May 20, leading to class changes and several groups isolating.

The Creighton School Division announced that a confirmed case of the disease was found in a person at Creighton Community School. As a result of the case and the resulting deep cleaning and health investigation at the school, Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 6 students stayed at home Friday, with classes expected to go back to normal after May long weekend.

"We are working with [the] Saskatchewan Health Authority through Public Health to facilitate the contact investigation related to the school setting," reads a statement issued by Creighton School Division director of education Vincent Cable.

"Once the contact investigation has been completed, all close contacts (high risk) that have been identified will be contacted directly and provided with the appropriate direction from Public Health regarding isolation, testing and follow-up."

Classes for the junior high and high school grades are meant to continue as normal May 21, with no class in the afternoon.

"At this point, there is no evidence of COVID-19 transmission within the school setting," reads Cable's letter.

Hapnot

Meanwhile at Hapnot, a new confirmed case of COVID-19 was announced within the Grade 12 cohort May 20, with the person possibly infectious when at the school May 14. A form letter sent after the case's confirmation states that all close contacts of the Hapnot case will be notified by public health and asking people to present for testing and isolate if anyone in the cohort experiences possible COVID-19 symptoms.

“The school is working closely with public health officials and is following their recommendations. Close contacts have been identified and are advised to self-isolate along with their household members,” reads the letter.

“If you have not been contacted by the school stating your child is a potential close contact and a public health official has not contacted you, your child has not been identified as being exposed to COVID-19 from this/these cases.”

The case comes the same day as another case was announced at Ecole McIsaac School, the second such case to be reported in the last week. The case, found in the school's orange cohort, came days after another case was found in the school's blue cohort.
