What exactly do seniors and retirees need for housing in Flin Flon? The City of Flin Flon, working on recommendations from council, is hoping a new survey will help answer that question.
The City has released a questionnaire to seek out what Flin Flonners feel are the community’s exact and immediate needs are for seniors’ housing. Included in the 10-question surveys are queries to what types of seniors’ living and accomodations respondents would most want to see, along with a section where respondents can include any other ideas, needs or services relating to seniors’ care.
Some of the different types of seniors’ housing mentioned include aging in place, where participating residents stay in their homes and are offered light maintenance or medical care when required; a life-lease-based model similar to a normal apartment, where retirees would pay monthly rent and pay a lump sum in advance, which is returned to residents when they move out; a condo-based model where someone buys a unit and pays taxes and fees and others.
Respondents are also asked what amenities they would like to see in a seniors’ living development – how many bathrooms or bedrooms, for example, or what size and services they would prefer, including in-home food service, housekeeping, laundry, pet sitting and other options.
According to a statement released by the City, the questionnaire is aimed at people either currently living in Flin Flon or who plan to move to the community in the next three to five years.
The questionnaire will be available online until Jan. 30. Links to the survey can be found on the City’s website and social media pages. Paper copies are also available at City Hall and can be filled out in person.
