Arrest and arson charges for man after Callinan Street house fire

A man is facing arson charges after a fire at a Callinan Street home May 16.

Firefighters were called to the scene around 7 p.m. May 16. A fire had started on the outside of a home and had spread into the building. While the fire caused extensive damage to the building and its exterior, all inhabitants - including, according to witnesses, at least one pet - got out safely.

An investigation by fire officials and police later determined the fire was deliberately set. An adult male was arrested by RCMP on charges of arson with disregard for human life. The male, a 34-year-old who was not living at the house, was released on condition to appear in court at a later date. His first appearance will be at Flin Flon Provincial Court July 14.

The Flin Flon Fire Department, RCMP members and the provincial Office of the Fire Commissioner continue to investigate the fire.
