Northern COVID-19 cases in both Manitoba and Saskatchewan dropped in several regions Tuesday.

Manitoba reported a total of 68 net new cases Feb. 23, one of the province's lowest numbers in months. Of those cases, 21 were found in the Northern Health Region (NHR), including 11 cases in the Cross Lake/Pimicikamak district. Three cases each were reported in the Bay Line, Grand Rapids/Misipawistik/Moose Lake/Mosakahiken/Easterville/Chemawawin and Island Lake districts.

Overall though, case loads saw a dip Tuesday, going from 595 active cases Monday to 586 active Tuesday. The dip is largely due to a series of recoveries reported in the Thompson/Mystery Lake district, which saw its active case load drop from 65 to 57 cases in one day. The Gillam/Fox Lake district also dropped, going from seven cases Monday to three Tuesday. Six separate districts have active COVID-19 cases in the single digits.

The Flin Flon/Snow Lake/Cranberry Portage/Sherridon and Pukatawagan/Mathias Colomb districts remain COVID-19 free, with no active cases reported in either area. No other NHR districts have no active cases as of Feb. 23

Across the border in Saskatchewan, cases are increasing in the far north east health zone, particularly in the part of the zone that covers Creighton, Denare Beach, Pelican Narrows and Sandy Bay.

Ten new cases - part of 122 total new cases reported in the province - were found in the far north east 2 health zone, bringing the zone up to 62 total cases. Almost all of the cases are within Pelican Narrows, which has 53 confirmed active cases as of Feb. 22.
