École McIsaac School teacher earns provincial award

A Flin Flon educator has received provincial recognition. Robert Abbott is a 2016-17 recipient of an Excellence in Education Award from Education and Training Minister Ian Wishart.

Robert Abbott is a 2016-17 recipient of an Excellence in Education Award from Education and Training Minister Ian Wishart.

Abbott, who teaches at École McIsaac School, was among nine recipients of the award. He and other recipients attended an awards reception at the Legislative Building on Friday, April 28.

Abbott has been a phys-ed and health education teacher for most of his 15-year career. He has spent thousands of volunteer hours looking after intramural and extracurricular programs on the local and divisional levels.

“Through his many efforts, he has positively impacted student learning and engagement in the school division,” read a bio of Abbott provided by the province.

Six other Flin Flon School Division educators were nominated for Excellence in Education awards: James Dumenko, Anna Harrison, Colleen Kennedy, Robyne Mansell, Shirley Payne and Penny Schroeder-Grove.
