The Zone 9 team participated in only five of the sports that were on the sport calendar at the Saskatchewan Summer Games in Weyburn August 8th to the 14th. Zone 9 will continue to add sports to it's contingent at each successive set of Games until full sport status is achieved. The five sports at the 2004 Summer Games were: Archery, Athletics, Basketball (Female & Male), Golf & Soccer (Female & Male). Zone nine includes all Saskatchewan communities north of Prince Albert, including Creighton and Denare Beach. There were two athletes from the area on the Zone 9 team, Robert Moore and Tony Gardiner. The highlights for the Zone 9 teams were as follows: Archery ? team finished in 4th place overall. Jonovan Kokan of La Loche won the gold medal in the Male Recurve competition. Athletics ? team finished in 9th place overall. Joseph Cook of Stanley Mission won the gold medal in the Male Open Pentathlon; Sheylee Belanger of Ile a la Crosse won a silver medal in Female Discus and Judy Cook of Stanley Mission won the bronze medal in Female Discus. Basketball (Female) ? team finished in 9th place overall. Basketball (Male) ? team finished in 9th place overall. Golf ? team finished in 9th place overall. Darren L'Heureux of La Ronge finished 8th in the 18 & Under category; Skyler Iron of Canoe Lake finished 9th in the 16 & Under category; Brody Fiske of La Ronge finished in 9th in the 14 & Under category and Jerry Christiansen of Air Ronge finished 8th in the 12 & Under category. Soccer (Female) ? team finished in 9th place overall. Soccer (Male) ? team finished in 9th place overall. The team finished their competition with an exciting 2-2 tie with Zone 2 (Regina).
