Although there are still some piles of snow lying around town, that hasnÕt stopped ball players from getting ready for the season. The Flin Flon Creighton Minor Ball league is preparing for another season. This year, under new direction, two registrations have already taken place for the summer league. Saturday morning was the second registration date. Sherry Parr-Campbell said the early numbers for FridayÕs registration were comparable to last year. With about 187 kids in the league last year, Parr-Campbell hopes to see even more this year. ÒBlast ball and T-ball numbers were the highest,Ó she says, referring to the first registration this year. ÒAnd there are good numbers for the higher ages, but we are hoping for more from the seven to nine year olds.Ó Aside from getting numbers up, the baseball league is hoping to throw a few curve balls into the season. ÒWe hope to have a family fun day, a fun tournament... and weÕre looking at, if there is enough interest, having a fall ball league,Ó says Parr-Campbell, adding it would be open to everyone but aimed at those who canÕt make the summer league. She says so far, the reaction to having a fall league has been positive. ÒWe had a sign-up sheet for those who were just interested... and there were lots (of people) interested,Ó she says. Parr-Campbell, who was also involved with opening the Creighton Skating School this year, says she has always been at the ball field, but when she heard they were in need of volunteers for their executive, she decided to help out. ÒIÕve been involved helping through the years with my son,Ó she says. ÒI heard they were struggling with the executive and baseball may not be a go, so I helped,Ó she says, Òand I was voted president.Ó With her new title, Parr-Campbell hopes to be able to transfer some of her skills from the skating board to the ball board. ÒI would hate to see baseball not be available to the kids and the community,Ó says the president. Parr-Campbell isnÕt too worried about the season as she says she has a lot of great help. ÒI have some really good people on the executive with some really great ideas,Ó she says. ÒWe hope to come up with some fun stuff for the year and get ball going again,Ó she says. ÒIt will be a good...fun season.Ó With summer comes other sports. Parr-Campbell says that while baseball and soccer conflict with each other because of scheduling, she hopes to be able to work around the soccer schedule. ÒWeÕre working with the soccer league...so the kids can play both and donÕt have to choose one or the other,Ó she says.
