The best thing about the Creighton Kodiaks' 0-2 districts finish was the play of Sara Thirnbeck. As Jason Straile coached his volleyball team to losses against Rose Valley and Choiceland by scores of 25-19, 25-9 and 25-20, 25-19 respectively, he praised one of his players. "Our libero, Sara Thirnbeck, was by far our best player," he says. Not only did she impress Straile with her passing ability and hustle, she raised some eyebrows. "The coaches commented on her diving and digging ability," Straile noted. "If everyone would have put in the effort Sara put it, we would have won districts." There wasn't much that Straile was impressed with, but he was happy with his team's improved serving. The Kodiaks had one disadvantage against their competition. "We were the youngest team there," he says. "The inexperience played a factor. It was a good learning experience for the girls." If there is a good sign from a losing effort, it's the fact that the players were just as upset about their play as their coach. "The girls overall played way better than they ever have," he says. "We will be a force in the future."
