Flin Flon Bombers' second-year defensemen, Michael Young will be joining the University of Nebraska's Maverick Hockey Program for the 2010-2011 season under a full scholarship package, trading his Maroon and Whites for Crimson and Blacks. "It's an excellent organization to deal with," said Bomber head coach and GM Mike Reagan. "It's an NHL atmosphere every night, and Michael (is) going to be a big part of their success. "We wanted him to consider all of his options, and there were close to 20 organizations interested in him. After Young came back from Omaha on a fly-down, he was dead set on playing with (the University)", said Reagan. The six-foot-two-inch blue-liner had another outstanding season with the Bombers with 20 goals and 29 assists in the 2008-09 regular season, and looks forward to the next stage of his hockey career. "I'm very excited, the atmosphere there is just huge. I really liked everything," said Young. Located in Omaha, Nebraska, The Mavs participate in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) with NCAA I and II status along with other universities such as: Notre Dame and Ohio State. They boast a near 17,000 seat capacity facility in the Qwest Center Omaha, with regular attendance of roughly 8,000 fans per game, giving Young better exposure for the talent he offers. It will be an environment Young, a native of Calgary, is more accustomed to, coming from a big city. "I think I had to make a more difficult adjustment coming to Flin Flon from Calgary," Young said when asked how he would cope with playing a larger centre. As for living in Omaha, Young need not worry; Forbes Magazine regularly votes the city as one of the Top 15 Regions in the nation. The Bomber organization received word on the announcement recently and couldn't be more proud of their all-star defensemen. "In my opinion, Michael's the best defensemen to have worn a Bomber jersey, and now the pressure is off," said Reagan. "He can enjoy playing hockey again. "I think he's also looking forward to that."
