The Yorkton Terriers have, officially, named Ed Zawatsky as their new head coach. Zawatsky is a former Terrier scoring great who broke into the coaching ranks after a successful professional playing career in Europe two years ago when he was hired as an assistant to Don Chesney. Chesney and Zawatsky took the Terriers to a pair of Sherwood Conference final berth appearances, losing in six games to the Melville Millionaires in 2002-03. They were beaten by the Weyburn Red Wings this past season. Chesney resigned from his post shortly after the Terrier season concluded; while Zawatsky was given the interim tag of head coach and general manager. The interim label on the GM title remains for Zawatsky as the Terriers made it clear during the press conference their search for front office help is continuing. Nevertheless, Zawatsky has been told he has full control over the day-to-day operations for the time being. As for Zawatsky, he has been given a two-year contract by the Terriers.
