Once typically a male-dominated sport, wrestling has been given a run for its money by female athletes. Delaney McIntyre recently placed fourth in Canada for her weight class in Vancouver. Traveling with Team Manitoba, the Grade 10 Hapnot Collegiate student lost her battle in the bronze medal match. Paired up against a Junior Huskey from Saskatoon, McIntyre said it was a close match. "It was a tough match, but it could have gone either way. I just lost," she said with a smile. Wrestling, McIntyre says, is less competitive in Manitoba. But, as a second-year veteran of Nationals, she knew what to expect. McIntyre took third place last year in her weight class in Nationals, which were held in Fredericton, New Brunswick. McIntyre ended her wrestling season in Vancouver this year and has moved onto soccer. Earning a spot on the 16-and-under girls' team, McIntyre continues to compete for Manitoba.
