Flin Flon's own Carson Lee will take his next shot at world wrestling gold next week.

Lee will be taking part in the United World Wrestling Junior World Championships next week in Ufa, Russia. Lee, a graduate of Hapnot Collegiate, current member of the Univ. of Saskatchewan Huskies wrestling team and multi-time national and Pan-American medallist, will wrestle in the men's 79-kilogram freestyle category against 21 opponents from around the world. Athletes from four continents will take part in the competition.

Lee's schedule will start with the official draw August 15, followed by weigh-ins and medical examinations August 16 at 8:30 a.m. - 10:30 p.m. Sunday night Flin Flon time. After the formalities, wrestlers in the 79-kilogram class will take part in qualification rounds from 11 a.m.-4 p.m., then will take part in the semi-final later that evening.

A second weigh-in will kick off August 17, with the repechage round taking place later in the day. The second semi-final will take part from 4:45 p.m.-5:15 p.m., with the finals taking place later that night, along with award ceremonies.

After a long period of being grounded during the COVID-19 pandemic, Lee won silver in the UWW Pan-American Championships, allowing him to qualify for worlds. Lee last participated in the junior worlds in 2019, finishing 24th in his weight class. Lee also won a silver medal at Pan-Ams that year.

It will be Lee's final run at a junior world championship medal - Carson will age out of the category after this year's tournament. The last time Lee wrestled at a world championship meet in his last year in an age group was at the 2018 UWW Cadet World Championships - Lee won bronze at that event, one year after finishing 23rd.
