Kelly Carrington Staff Writer School is just about done for another year. And who doesn't love to spend their summer with friends on the beach, visiting local attractions, playing games and being outside. Summer in the Parks is ready to share those opportunities with local children. Open to those between the ages of five and eight, Summer in the Parks will create 'enriching new experiences,' said camp supervisor Rhianne Rodnisky. 'Camp is for new friendships and new found experiences,' she said. Moving on from camp counsellor, as she was for the past two summers, Rodnisky has moved into the supervisor's chair with the City of Flin Flon's Summer in the Parks program. Over the course of eight weeks, Rodnisky and her counsellors will help campers create new memories, rekindle friendships, and provide new learning opportunities. With themes of 'Water, Water, Everywhere!', 'Going Green', and a Treasure Island Week, the campers will learn a variety of new experiences and skills. 'I'm most excited about either the Water, Water, Everywhere! week or the Going Green,' said Rodnisky. Through the Going Green week, campers will learn to limestone a section of land at Phantom Lake. 'This week we are going to focus on our environment, and what we can do to help it,' read the camp's brochure. Along with spreading limestone, the campers will make environmentally friendly crafts. Summer in the Parks will also offer Sports Extravaganza, Superhero Week, Animal Planet Week, Culture Week, and Lights, Camera, Action! Week. 'Camp is going to be super, duper fun,' said an energetic Rodnisky. 'We'll have lots of fun field trips.' Campers will make their way to places like the Flin Flon Fire Hall, the Flin Flon Station Museum, Rotary Wheel, Denare Beach, and parts of Creighton like the Lions Spray Pool. Reminding parents that Summer in the Parks registration fills up fast, Rodnisky encourages forms to be handed in as soon as possible. Joining Rodnisky in Summer in the Parks this year will be assistant supervisor Amber Klause and counsellors Alex Bettner, Jillian Hanson, Taylor Davidson, Janelle Wride, Sam Armstrong, Kyla Phillips and Brie Phillips.
