Compiled by Kelly Carrington The Kindersley Klippers have made some changes as Larry Wintoneak stepped down as head coach and Director of Operations as of December 13. Rockie Zinger has taken over Wintoneak's position. After being the Klippers' bench-boss for four years, the coach mutually agreed to step down. Zinger was announced as the interim head coach on Monday. The Klippers aren't the only ones making big moves. Melfort Mustangs head coach Daryl Mann has made some big moves this past week. While in the chase to secure the top spot in the Bauer Conference, Mann made eight trades Ð giving up five players and getting three new ones Ð just before the December 1 deadline. "I just wanted to add a little bit to our hockey club," Mann was quoted as saying on the SJHL website. "I can understand why so many see it surprising, but some guys wanted to go home so we accommodated the wishes of those players and we got some quality guys in return. "I like what we got back and I like the make-up of our team. The big thing now is chemistry and making sure that we get that," said Mann. The Mustangs said good-bye to Justin Bardarson, Sam Gilbert, former Bombers Cole Gibson and Scott Brkich. The coach said it was tough wanting to accommodate the players. "Its very tough," he was quoted as saying. "We were playing well and you find out some of the kids that are playing well that decide they want to go back home for whatever reason. "It makes you struggle and it makes you panic before (the deadline) trying to find a place for those guys, but we were able to and we were fortunate to add some guys that I think makes us a better hockey club." The Mustangs, as of Monday morning, took up the third place spot in the Bauer Conference. Earning first place was the La Ronge Ice Wolves while the Humboldt Broncos were in second. The Bombers called fourth home as they were 10 points behind the first place team. The Battlefords North Stars and the Nipawin Hawks came in fifth and sixth place for the same conference. In the Sherwood Conference, the Yorkton Terriers lead the SJHL with 48 points Ð just two points above the Ice Wolves. Estevan earned third place after taking two of a possible four points from the Bombers over the weekend. With 38 points, the Bombers and the Bruins were tied Ð though in very different places in the standings. The Weyburn Red Wings earned third place in the Sherwood Conference and the Kindersley Klippers Ð now under new management Ð earned fourth. Melville and Notre Dame took up the fifth and six places in the conference. Advancement The Bombers have four games before the SJHL Christmas Break, which runs December 20 to the 29th. Flin Flon will have four games in five days Ð on the road Ð as they visit the La Ronge Ice Wolves tonight, the North Stars tomorrow and then a double header weekend against the Klippers Saturday and Sunday. The Bombers look to earn eight points from the road tripÐ though they know it will be tough.
