Kelly Carrington Staff Writer Sunshine, warm weather, great friends and plenty of activities helped bust all sorts of winter blues over the weekend. The Bust the Winter Blues Festival was a hit as adults, children, friends and families were out together enjoying the weekend. The annual Kinettes Trivia Night was a success Friday as teams surprised themselves with knowledge they didn't know they had. Hats went off to Les Quizerables for their first-place win. The team, made up of Vince Cable, Angela Cable, Janel Pearson, Brett Pearson, Stacy Becker and Kathryn Drapak, earned highest marks and $300. Saturday morning, the activities moved to the Flin Flon Aboriginal Friendship Centre with a pancake breakfast and silver collection. The afternoon saw cards at the Creighton Seniors Centre, Family Fun at the Rotary Wheel and a craft sale at the Flin Flon Community Hall. At the Rotary Wheel, there was plenty to take part in. Free hot dogs, hot chocolate and marshmallows kept everyone energized as there were horse-drawn sleigh rides, traditional aboriginal games, a fire, snowshoe races, a baking contest and a tug-of-war. A few lucky winners headed home with snacks, breakfast and supper from the meat draw. As the sky grew darker, it lit up with reds, greens, blues and whites. Winter fireworks were set off over the Creighton Community Soccer Field before families headed over to the family dance. More snacks, dancing and plenty of laughs made for a fun night for everyone who attended. There were even a princess and ballerina at the party! Sunday saw more families gathering on Phantom Lake for the annual fishing derby. With a small $5 entry fee, anglers of all ages were welcomed on the ice. Dave Wasylciw picked up the first fish of the derby _ a 9 3/8' perch _ as well as the smallest with a 6.5' perch. Darren Johnson reeled in the second fish of the tournament with his 18' white fish earning him the biggest fish caught. For those who weren't at the fishing derby, the Border Explorers Snowmobile Club brought back their Frozen Aces Poker Derby. The Seniors Centre was busy again, as ladies and a few gentlemen played cards. The warm weather, friendly and familiar faces, and laughs had over the weekend made for another great Bust the Winter Blues Festival. Results While Les Quizerables came in first place at Trivia Night, second place, and $200, went to Alex Trebek's Illegitimate Children, consisting of Richard Rebelo, Jeff Taylor, Joel Nilsen, Sarah Rebelo, Justin Hope and Natalie Beattie.
