The SJHL Goaltender of the Week is 20-year-old Francois Laverdiere of the Flin Flon Bombers. Laverdiere gave up just two goals in two games played last week to post a miniscule 0.96-GAA and .967-SPCT while going 1-0-and-1. For the season, Laverdiere is 6-23-and-5 with a 3.88-GAA and .899-SPCT. Incidentally, on a week where Laverdiere was excelling, the Bombers won their first game that Laverdiere did not appear in when Dale Pettit backstopped the team to a win over the Melfort Mustangs. Other candidates for last week's top goaltender include Melville's Jordan Kaczmar, Humboldt's Nathan Fischl, Kevin Dziaduck of the Yorkton Terriers and Weyburn puckstopper Brenden Cuthbert. Player of the Week: Lance Herauf, Yorkton Terriers The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League is pleased to announce YorktonÊforward Lance Herauf as the Midwest Sportswear Ltd. Player of the Week for the period ending January 16th. The 20-year-old Herauf received an immediate boost to his game with the acquisition of 20-year-old forward Andrew Skrabek from the Flin Flon Bombers.ÊHerauf had three assists in Friday's 9-2 thumping of the Kindersley Klippers.ÊThe next night, he scored twice and set up another in a 6-1 win over the Battlefords North Stars.ÊHe also scored in a 2-2 tie with Weyburn on Sunday. The Balgonie native, who is usually one of the SJHL's top point producers, got off to a slow start, but his production started to take off once Yorkton employed Josh Garbutt on his line, moving him up from defense. Herauf now has 15 goals and 18 assists in 36 games this season. Defenseman of the Week: Brett McRuvie, Yorkton Terriers The SJHL Defenseman of the Week is 19-year-old Brett McRuvie of the Yorkton Terriers. The Saskatoon native is not known for his offensive prowess, but he scored a beauty on an end-to-end rush against the Battlefords North Stars on Saturday night.ÊHe also had two assists over the course of a three game in three night stretch and provided excellent leadership on the back end as the Terriers allowed just five goals in those three games. A three year veteran, McRuvie has just five goals in his SJHL career.ÊFor the season, he has scored one goal and eight assists in 36 games. Yorkton defense partners Perry Faul and Dustin Nehring were on the short list. Joining them were Melville's Chad Krienke and Flin Flon's Bradyn McCullough. Krienke has accepted a leadership role on the Mils and they had two wins in three games last week. McCullough scored a goal during a 1-1 tie with Nipawin in his first SJHL game. Herauf receives a product from Midwest Sportswear Limited.Ê Herauf, McRuvie, and Laverdiere all get undergarment wear from ITECH. Weyburn Red Wing forward Kai Magnussen has made a verbal agreeement to accept a scholarship from Holy Cross of the NCAA for the 2005-06 season. Magnussen, who was traded by the Melville Millionaires to the Weyburn Red Wings on the January 10th trade deadline, finalized the deal one day after he arrived in Weyburn. The 5'10", 190 Ibs forward from Okotoks AB has 16 goals and 28 assists in 40 games this season. Most of those totals were generated in Melville. He has two points in two games with the Red Wings. The Holy Cross Crusaders play in the Atlantic Hockey Conference of the NCAA.ÊFormer Notre Dame Hound forward Matt Werry plays on the team and ex-Yorkton Terrier Bryce Nantes also attends the school.
