Taxpayers will assume the full cost of the Whitney Forum this year after a decades-old arrangement with HBMS ended because it conflicted with provincial legislation. The City formerly paid the company $10,000 annually for electricity for the arena, but it must now purchase the power from Manitoba Hydro. The municipal government will now be billed $55,000 per year for the facility, home of the Flin Flon Bombers and the Uptown Curling Club. Municipal Administrator Larry Fancy said the change means the City is now 100 per cent responsible for costs associated with the forum. Other than saving on electricity, the City also used to receive steam heat from HBMS for 45-year-old building. Fancy said it's a challenge to come up with additional funds, but added that when it's necessary, it's necessary. "That's the part of budgeting that always keeps you on your toes," he said.
