Whitney a dangerous place for opponents

Two more victories leave Bombers undefeated at home

The Flin Flon Bombers are undefeated at home after a pair of hard-fought wins at the Whitney Forum over the weekend. They improved to 3-1-0-1 with victories over the Estevan Bruins and Humboldt Broncos.

On Friday, three goals in the second period and three more in the third saw the Bombers double up on the Bruins 6-3.

Chris Rauckmand and Austin Calladine each had a goal and two assists to lead the way. Rauckman’s goal came at 2:07 of the third period and was the eventual game-winner.

Dean Allison, Mason Etter, Austin Evans and Parker Evans-Campbell had the other goals for Flin Flon.

All three Estevan goals were scored by defencemen, as RT Rice, Josh  Rieger and David Robertson all found the back of the net.

Both teams scored two power play goals, and Simon Hofley made 25 of 28 saves to earn the win.

Hofley had to be sharp on Saturday as the Humboldt Broncos fired 40 pucks in the direction of the veteran Flin Flon netminder. He stopped 37 of them in a 4-3 win.

Michael Knaub scored the winning goal midway through the third period for the Bombers. Also scoring for Flin Flon were Allison, Rauckman and Calladine.
Raukman’s goal was his league-leading seventh of the season, and he also led the league with 11 points after five games.

The Bombers are in the middle of a six-game home stand, and will face the Notre Dame Hounds and La Ronge Ice Wolves for the first time at the Whitney Forum this weekend.

“We feel that we should win every game at home and it’s been a good start,” said head coach Mike Reagan. “I thought Friday we played as strong a team as we have seen in a while. We won both third periods this weekend,  which was huge for us.”

The Hounds will provide a real test on Friday night. They are coming to Flin Flon undefeated at 4-0. On Saturday, the 2-2 La Ronge Ice Wolves are in town. Game time at the Whitney Forum
is 7:30.
