Kelly Carrington Staff Writer What would you like to see at Queen's Park? That's the basic question behind the Queen's Park Recreation Survey. There are two surveys for the Flin Flon area _ the first for Hapnot Collegiate students and the second for community members. 'The Flin Flon School Division has purchased the Queen's Park grounds and (is) starting the process of designing changes to this area,' wrote assistant superintendent of schools Dean Grove in an e-mail. 'At this point, we envision the development of a large, open green space along with a multi-use hard surface recreation surface next to Hapnot Collegiate and Many Faces Education Centre.' The survey will help gauge what the community would like to see in the area. 'It's a chance to give us a new perspective and new ideas,' Grove said in a phone interview. Grove said he expects to see suggestions such as a green space, basketball courts and a volleyball court, but he would like to see new ideas as well. 'It's not just a school-based project, it's adding value to the community,' he said. 'It would enhance the area.' Because there are two aspects to Queen's Park, there are two surveys being distributed. Help define The survey to the students will help define what is being used now and what they hope to see in the future. The community survey will focus on recreational activities for families. Queen's Park can be more than an attractive green space or new basketball court, said Grove. 'There is potential for outdoor education on the natural landscape,' he said. Grove hopes to have the majority of the information gathered in the next two weeks; however, surveys will be accepted until the end of the school year in June. 'We'd like to have our landscape architect working on the design by early summer,' said Grove. The area in question does not include the proposed Flin Flon Skatepark, which is to overlook Queen's Park adjacent to Many Faces. 'We're not developing the skatepark, but it will mesh with the skatepark proposal,' Grove said. The community survey is available at www.surveymonkey.com/s/WBX3PBM
