Compiled by Kelly Carrington The 12 SJHL teams will meet in Weyburn the weekend of December 3 for the annual Showcase. What better place to see players like Humboldt's Justin Buzzeo, Yorkton's Clarke Breitkreuz, La Ronge's Doug Lindensmith and Melfort's Charles Corsi along with other top-notch SJHL players under the same roof for a weekend of SJHL play. The annual SJHL showcase is ready to go in Weyburn in an event proudly brought to you by the Saskatchewan Government Employees Union who have stepped up to become a title sponsor. The three day event will see each team play two games and will give SJHL fans in the area, and more importantly scouts a good chance to check out the talent that the SJHL brings out on a nightly basis. Its expected that many people representing NCAA and CIS schools along with NHL teams will be making Crescent Point arena their home for the weekend. The Flin Flon Bombers will take on the Kindersley Klippers Saturday and the Yorkton Terriers the following day. The Red Wings are very excited at having the organization and the city of Weyburn host the 2010 Showcase. Highlights Team president Ryan Williams says it is one of the highlights of the season. "We're very fortunate all the time to see our close rivals, but having everyone in the same spot at the same time doesn't happen very often," said Williams. "We get to showcase our players to scouts and whoever else, but one of the best things from a fans point of view is we get to see everybody a couple of times which is something that doesn't normally happen. "It's fantastic. It's a hockey lover's dream." Not only does Weyburn get to benefit from what will be a great weekend of hockey, but they will also benefit as a city as many dollars will be pumped into the city's economy. "Absolutely," Williams exclaimed. "The city knows this is going to be a weekend where a lot of money is generated. We will have fans coming in from all across the province, we will have a lot of scouts here and a lot of parents as well. "It means our hotel rooms will be booked, our businesses will see a little more action as people spend the weekend walking through stores buying whatever and eating at our restaurants. "It is a big deal and its one of the reasons why there's a lot of excitement around the community." The weekend will also allow SJHL fans to take a look at the "new," old Crescent Point Place. Renovation The building has gone through a major renovation period and while final touches are still being put on the facility, Williams is expecting many who haven't been in the rink for a while to like what has been done to it. "Weyburn has one of the most storied facilities in the league and the province." Williams said. "Many people have been through this barn before to watch some games and they know it's a great place to watch a hockey game. "I think they will like what they see if they haven't been here for a while. Its still a great place to watch a game and its now a better place to watch a game."
