The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League is pleased to announceÊEstevan forward Pat McGillicky as the Midwest Sportswear Ltd. Player of the Week for the period ending January 2nd. The 19-year-old McGillicky missed a good chunk of the first half with an injury; but returned to score a hat trick on Saturday against the Weyburn Red Wings in a 5-2 win.ÊHe added two more goals the next day against the Wings as Estevan scored a 3-1 decision to increase their winning streak to twelve games. The native of Coronach now has 15 goals and nine assists in 20 games.ÊHe was selected to the Sherwood Conference All-Star team; but did not play because of his injury. See 'Also' P.# Con't from P.# Linemate Donovan Hall and La Ronge forward Dillon Henningson were the runners-up.ÊAlso considered Melfort's Nick Vandenbeld and Melville's Bear Trapp. Defenseman of the week: Matt Fennell, Melfort Mustangs The SJHL Defenseman of the Week is 18-year-oldÊMatt Fennell of the Melfort Mustangs. A hometown product, Fennell collected two assists in Saturday's 4-3 overtime win over the Nipawin Hawks. Despite his youth, Fennell is a two year veteran with the Mustangs and plays an important role on their powerplay. Fennell is tied for sixth amongst SJHL blueliners in scoring with two goals and 19 assists in 38 games. He is also the first member of the Mustangs to garner a weekly award this season. Other players that deserve consideration include Chris de Bruyn from Melville, and the Nipawin pair of Kyle Nichols and Patrick Carriere. Goaltender of the week: Jamie Langen, Melville Millionaires The SJHL Goaltender of the Week is 20-year-old Jamie Langen of the Melville Millionaires. Langen returned from the Christmas Break to stop 41 shots on Saturday afternoon in leading the Millionaires to a 5-0 win over the Yorkton Terriers. It was just the third win in nineteen games for the Millionaires and numbers indicate the Mils don't win at all when Langen is not between the pipes. Langen is 11-14-and-4 on the year; while the Mils are 0-and-7 in games in which Langen was not a factor. The Saskatoon native also has a 3.31-GAA and .911-SPCT. Estevan's Juliano Pagliero came within a whisker of winning his third straight Goalie of the Week award.ÊLa Ronge's Michael Pilote, Melfort's Aaron Forer, and Nipawin's Michael Clements also deserve consideration.
