First there was sun, then there was rain and then came snow Ð followed by sun and more snow. Though the official opening of the Phantom Lake Golf Course was May 8, it has closed its doors a few times since then due to the weather. Head golf professional Brett Berkner says with the changing weather, it's hard to attract people to the course. "A lot of people are fair-weather golfers," says Berkner, noting that the May long weekend was busy Ð as the sun was out. Comparing this season to last, when Berkner arrived at the golf course, he says this season has had "a tough go." As well as last season, the club will continue to offer their men's and ladies nights Ð although this time last year, Berkner says they had already done three rounds of each, whereas this year, they haven't started. Another thing that might be affected by the weather, as well as the job situation at HBMS, is the membership. Last season, the club had over 500 memberships. Berkner says he hopes to be comparable to that number this year. "A lot of (them) haven't been out yet," he says referring to last year's members. "The weather has been miserable, (but I) hope that turns around and they come out and support the club again." With that being said, Berkner says he thinks he will see many of the members return. "We hope that our members will show their patronage and come back. They enjoy their golf."
