Kelly Carrington Staff Writer The SJHL will be seeing plenty of changes in the upcoming seasons as the league switches to three divisions rather than the two it has now. But a second big announcement was made last week. The league reported there is talk of another team joining the league. 'The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League is pleased to announce a group of citizens from Warman have expressed interest in obtaining a new franchise in the SJHL. If approved the new team would start play in the 2014-15 season,' read the SJHL website last Thursday. To find out if there is enough interest in a 13th franchise being added to the league, from Warman, a viability / feasibility study will be done to 'determine if there is sufficient support.' Currently, the league has 12 teams: Battlefords North Stars; Estevan Bruins; Flin Flon Bombers; Humboldt Broncos; Kindersley Klippers; La Ronge Ice Wolves; Melfort Mustangs; Melville Millionaires; Nipawin Hawks; Notre Dame Hounds; Weyburn Red Wings; and Yorkton Terriers. To determine if there will be enough support, the website stated 'the group will be soliciting citizens to determine a season ticket base and soliciting the corporate community to determine sufficient corporate support.' Though dates were not released, the website said the viability/feasibility study will start soon. Warman, pop. 7,084, is approximately 20 kilometres north of Saskatoon. The SJHL was formed in 1968-69, though some of its current teams existed long before that. The Bombers were formed in 1927, making them the league's second-oldest team behind the Melville Millionaires, a club that dates back to 1908. The La Ronge Ice Wolves are the league's newest team, having been founded in 1998. Another newer addition to the league are the Melfort Mustangs, established in 1988.
