Kelly Carrington Staff Writer Walking a dog can come with its own challenges as the canines often get distracted by their surroundings. Training a dog is no easy feat, either. But training a guide dog is a whole new ball game. The Lions Foundation of Canada knows the trials and tribulations of preparing a dog to assist a hearing- or sight-impaired person. The Pu rina Walk for Dog Guides helps to raise not only awareness, but funds for those who need the assistance of a guide dog. The Lions Foundation trains dogs not only for those with sight and hearing loss, but for people with a medical or physical ability, those who suffer from seizures and even autism. The Creighton Sportex will host the Purina Walk for Dog Guides on June 5. With no registration fee, the Lion's Foundation of Canada guarantees 100 per cent of money raised will help to provide guide dogs for Canadians, at no cost. The Purina Walk for Dog Guides is held in over 200 communities, annually, across Canada. For more information on the walk, visit www.purinawalkfordogguides.com
