Two local youth coaches are the first ever winners of the Sport Manitoba Regional Volunteer of the Year award for the Norman Region. Bailie Borschewski and Tara Abbott were nominated for the award after taking two months out of their summer to coach a youth soccer team. Nominations are taken from community recreation departments, gym teachers and community sport organizations such as minor ball or soccer. Winners are chosen by the Norman Regional Sport Council. There are two categories - one for youth and one for adult, and Tara and Bailie were co-winners in the youth category. "This award is to recognize the efforts and roles that volunteers play in the delivery of sport," said Amber McDermott, regional manager of Sport Manitoba - Norman Region. Winners are invited to attend Sport Manitoba's "A Night of Champions" which takes place in April. As the regional winners, Tara and Bailie are now eligible for the provincial Volunteer of the Year award.
