Hapnot Collegiate volleyball teams will be heading to Thompson for the Zone 11 championships this weekend. Both senior teams started off the season with second place finishes at their home tournament, and are expecting good showings at the tournament this weekend. "That tournament set the standard for the season," said Craig McIntosh, coach of the Kings. "This year in the north, there is good competition between Flin Flon and Thompson, which is always good. Basically, it will come down to which school has improved more over the last few months, and who gets the bounces." Recently, the Hapnot teams played in Brandon at Manitoba's largest volleyball tournament, with 38 teams. The Hapnot guys played exceptionally well, finishing with seven wins and seven losses against some of the top teams in the province. "Our guys really came around in that tournament," said McIntosh. "They really showed up against some of the bigger teams. We know we can compete." The Hapnot guys have a young squad, and McIntosh knows that regardless of what happens this weekend, the future of volleyball at Hapnot is in good hands. The guys finished the regular season with a win at a tournament last weekend in Cranberry Portage. "It's good for our guys to come off a win going into zones,"said McIntosh. "Thompson didn't play on the weekend, so I know they haven't played many games in a while." Hapnot will have to contend with RDPC from Thompson and MBCI from The Pas for the Zone 11 banner. The Hapnot Kings are the reigning Zone 11 Champions. Provinvials will be in Virden, Manitoba on November 28-30.
