Uptown Curling Club members, get your brooms and rocks ready as the season is set start in early October. "I think it's gonna be real good," Dave Kendall, accountant for the Uptown Curling Club says on the new year. Players can look forward to playing on better ice as a new system is in place to maintain the ice surface. With the old system, if there was a problem with the curling rink, fixing the problem affected the hockey rink also. "It will be more controllable,"he says. Players might be able to start sweeping the ice and scream 'hurry', on October 3, if the system is installed by then. With the season weeks away, there is still time for players to register and treasurer, Cindy Rainville, says there are three openings for mixed curling on Friday nights and spots available for men. "There could still be guys out golfing," she says. "Overall, I don't think there will be a decrease in numbers." Tiffany Anderson, ice and draw co-chair, said there are also four openings on Monday and Wednesday. Anderson stated the numbers will be close to last year, membership is strong as some people play more than once a week. Registration numbers are still a mystery, but Rainville figures to have a better idea within a week.9/19/2005
