On their way to making better greens and updated buildings, the Phantom Lake Golf Club has been working since October to revamp the clubhouse and course. The project is slated to cost $4.2 million over a five-year time period. A portion of the project is nearing completion as work continues on the greens and ditches, as well as fixing the tee off boxes. The five-year plan project is to cover the greens, clubhouse, infrastructure and machinery. "First is the sports," says club president Rick Dansereau, "which means the golf course. We started on that and spent about $70,000 on fixing the ditching and clearing the ditches around the course. "As well, we are fixing up the tee off boxes. We've done some work, but the main element is to do with the drainage," he says. According to Dansereau, that portion of the project is about halfway complete. With the work beginning in the fall, he says things should wrap up this fall on that section of work. Financially, there were two ways to go about this project. First, the club could have asked for a loan, which they decided against. The second option, which better suited the club, was to ask for support. Breaking the project into smaller, bite-size pieces, the club is able to get more work done, but in a longer time frame. Dansereau has applied for a $1 million grant to help with the financial side of the project, as well as a few other grants. Though work continues at Phantom Lake Golf Course, the greens are still open for the residents to use.
