Creighton Kodiaks co-coach Jane Dupre expected nothing short of victory during the fastball Districts in Melfort last Wednesday. Dupre got the results she wanted as the team went 4-0 in consecutive games while dominating the opposition offensively 43-1. "I've coached some good teams, but this is the best one in every position," she said. The only run scored came from a Jordy Dumenko walk. The pitcher led the Kodiaks' dominance as he struck out 36 of 52 batters. When asked what he thought of the opposition, Jordy said politely, "not the best." This second-year team was dedicated to improving on their 1-2 record from last year. "All of our practices, kids showed up and were committed to the team," Dupre said. "They're just a great bunch of gentleman." To ensure success, the team worked on hitting and getting game experience against created teams, such as the 'old-timers' they recently played. "We needed to see what we could work on in game situations," Dupre explained. The toughest situation they faced was playing all their games back-to-back. Making it easier was the fact two games ended by a mercy rule. While Dupre listed names such as Chad March, newcomer Steven Robinson, her son Cory, and Matt Chambers who did well Ð in the end it was all about the team. In Jordy's opinion, they displayed good defence, hit the ball well and played good all-round. Chad said he knew the team would win because last year was just a practice and this time it didn't seem hard. "Everybody did their job," Jordy said. Shawn Wilkinson, a co-captain, felt that everyone put in an effort and exceeded his expectations. "Even everyone on the bench contributed," Shawn said. "Jordy's pitching was great. He was basically untouchable." The Kodiaks defeated Kelvington 7-0, then Melfort 8-1. Batting only twice, they beat Kelvington 16-0 and Kinistino 12-0. In both those games, the teams had 10 at bats. "We can't do much better," Dupre said with a smile, as she's already thinking of a repeat.
