Hapnot’s Kings and Kweens are northern volleyball royalty once again.

The junior varsity boys and girls teams each won their respective zone tournaments last weekend, claiming both the Zone 11 A/AA titles on their home court.

The Kweens ran roughshod on their opponents, not dropping a set through the round robin while beating Chief Sam Cook Mahmuwee, Chemawawin and the St. Theresa Thunderbirds.

Hapnot opened the playoff round with a commanding 25-3, 25-4 win over Nelson House’s NNOC Warriors, then beat Grand Rapids to advance to the zone finals against OCN’s Oscar Lathlin Collegiate Wolverines.

In the final, the Kweens again couldn’t be stopped, winning 25-9, 25-20 to clinch the zone banner.

Things went just as well for the Kings, who finished first in their five-team round robin.

The Kings began the playoff round with a win over St. Theresa, putting them in the final with Oscar Lathlin.

Once again, Hapnot came out on top, defeating the Wolverines and finishing up a banner weekend for the school.

Kodiaks

Things didn’t go quite as well for the Creighton Kodiaks boys’ volleyball team.

The team finished third in their regional tournament, held last weekend in Creighton.

After starting the tournament hot with a win over Senator Allen Bird, the Kodiaks lost to Birch Hills and Meath Park, eventually finishing behind both teams.

Creighton will not take part in the next regional tournament, held this weekend in Birch Hills.

Greenstone league

The Flin Flon – Creighton team is still on top of the Greenstone high school hockey league.

Despite a push from Sandy Bay, the cross-border side came away with a 5-4 win on Nov. 12, maintaining their spot in first place in the league standings. Flin Flon – Creighton has won each of their first three games and are currently the league’s only undefeated team.

Deschambault Lake pushed into second overall with a 9-3 win over Frontier Collegiate. The Deschambault team currently has a 2-1 record and four points.

Pelican Narrows, who did not play last weekend, sit third with two points, while Sandy Bay and Frontier both sit tied for last place with no points.
