Congratulations to Val Custer, the Chicken Chef Athlete of the Week. Val is a student at Many Faces Education Centre, and is the leader of the school's wrestling team. The wrestling program is the first sports team that the school has put together to compete against other teams in the North, and Val has led the way with two gold medals in her first two wrestling meets. She took the gold in her weight category at both the Flin Flon meet at McIsaac School, which was her first competition ever, as well as the follow up tournament in Cranberry Portage. "I wanted to join wrestling because I thought it would be fun," she said. "It's interesting, I've never done anything like it before." Val had never wrestled before taking up the sport at Many Faces this year. "Val has something a little different than the other girls, and that's killer instinct," said her coach, Craig McIntosh. "When she gets on the mats, she wants to finish, and fast. A lot of the other girls go in and they are smiling and giggling, which is good because they are having fun, but not Val. She wants to get a pin quick, with no fooling around." McIntosh compared Val's raw talent to his star wrestler with the Hapnot program, Brittany Brown. Val will compete at the upcoming Zones and Provincials in Thompson. Val wins herself a 9" pizza or two piece chicken dinner from Chicken Chef.
