Submitted by Flin Flon Skating Club Twelve skaters from the Flin Flon Skating Club participated in the 2012 Norman Regional STARSkate competition held in The Pas on Jan. 28. Under the guidance of coach Heather Powell, the girls trained hard and performed to their personal best. For some of the skaters, it was their first competition. The following skaters competed in the corresponding events: Ladies Free Skate Pre-Entry: Darah Brown, Victoria Pedwell, Jerilyn Wood Pre-Preliminary: Bailey Bjarnason, Amara Klunder, Suzanne Nelson, Melissa Ziehlke Preliminary: Hasana Church, Kelsey Farkus, Amilee Lamb Compulsory Elements/Short Program Pre-Entry: Darah Brown, Victoria Pedwell, Jerilyn Wood Entry: Amara Klunder Pre-Preliminary: Bailey Bjarnason, Suzanne Nelson, Melissa Ziehlke Preliminary: Hasana Church, Kelsey Farkus, Amilee Lamb Interpretive Pre-Introductory: Bailey Bjarnason (The Pink Diamond), Kelsey Farkus (Feel the Beat), Melissa Ziehlke (A Tribute) Introductory: Amilee Lamb (A Spanish Mission) Silver: Hasana Church (Warrior) Team Event Pre-Entry: Alyssa Andres, Darah Brown, Victoria Pedwell, Jerilyn Wood (Rock Stars) Spins Pre-Preliminary: Bailey Bjarnason, Amara Klunder, Suzanne Nelson, Melissa Ziehlke Preliminary: Hasana Church, Kelsey Farkus, Amilee Lamb Improv Junior: Suzanne Nelson Intermediate: Hasana Church, Amilee Lamb Senior: Melissa Ziehlke Fun Skate was held for CanSkate and Junior StarSkaters Alyssa Andres, Shanti Church Each participant in the Compulsory Elements/Short Program received a judges' comment sheet. Bjarnason brought home bronze for her Spins. Ziehlke brought home gold for her Improv. Hasana Church brought home silver in Free Skate, gold in Interpretive, Gold in Spins and Gold in Improv. Church also won the Norman Regional Supervisors award for the skater who demonstrates the most passion and commitment during their Free Skate program. She won a $50 gift certificate redeemable at the Inner Edge. All the girls shone with excitement and had a wonderful time. This event is sanctioned through Skate Canada. All skaters participating must be Skate Canada members. On Sunday, Jan. 29 some of the skaters demonstrated their skills and were tested on their performance during a test day.
