Walker Wintoneak is just one step away from making it onto the Team Western squad for the 2006 World Under 17 Hockey Challenge. The 15 year-old recently attended the Spring Evaluation Tournament in Winnipeg on April 22-24 and had a good camp, scoring four goals in three games. Because of his good showing, he has now been invited to the upcoming Program of Excellence Summer Evaluation Camp in Winnipeg, set for June 28 to July 3. If he can survive the cut at this evaluation camp, he'll earn a spot on Team Western and play in the 2006 World Under 17 Hockey Challenge in Regina from December 27/05 to January 4/06. The right-winger is one of 68 players (36 forwards, 24 defencemen and eight goalies) who have been invited to the evaluation camp in Winnipeg. Only 11 players will survive the cut at this camp, and move on to Team Western. Walker played last season for the Midget AA Bombers. The local team had a banner year, winning tournaments and finishing in second place at the Manitoba Provincial Championships.
