Kelly Carrington Staff Writer Getting into summer mode a little early this year, the Trout Festival Committee will be hosting a Hawaiian Beach Party social to help fundraise for the upcoming festival. Planned with three bands, the social will help raise money and promote the upcoming events. Festival President Tim Babcock says he hopes to see people dressed up and taking in the music on April 23 at the Flin Flon Community Hall. Al and the Koholics will be performing, as will Moonbath. Another band will be playing, though it has yet to be confirmed. For all those sporting grass skirts, board shorts and floral touristy shirts, prizes will be handed out for best dressed and even the person with the best beach body. As well, there will be a limbo contest. How low can you go? In preparation, the Trout Festival Committee is looking for decorations, like palm trees, that could be borrowed for the social. "That would be great," said Babcock. At last year's fundraiser social, in conjunction with the World's Largest Social with Manitoba Homecoming, about 550 people attended. See 'Comp...' on pg. 10 Continued from pg. 5 This year, Babcock hopes to see a comparable number, if not more. Tickets for the Hawaiian Beach Party social will be on sale in the next week or so. Check The Reminder for advertisements and information. Keeping the music scene alive, the Trout Festival Committee will also be bringing in a heavy metal show, in May. The Creighton Community Hall will be transformed to accommodate Winnipeg's Shadows Till Sunrise as well as Walking in Ashes, from The Pas. A third band will also be playing, though their name has yet to be released. "We're really excited that Shadows Till Sunrise is coming up," said Babcock. A metal show is off the norm for Flin Flon shows, but Babcock says it might just work. "It's not every day that someone brings a heavy metal band to Flin Flon," he said. "It's a chance for us to promote what the Trout Festival is about to the younger crowd." The committee meets once every three weeks to organize the town-favourite festival. See 'Festiv...' on pg. 12
