Tomorrow is the registration deadline for the 4th Annual Kids of Steel/Try a Tri Triathlon. Those interested have until 8 p.m. tonight to sign up at the Flin Flon Aqua Centre, for the event that takes place on June 13 starting at 4:30 p.m. The rain date is June 27, should the weather be uncooperative. The Kids of Steel/Try a Tri Triathlon has an age category and ability level for everyone. Kids age 8 and 9 will have a 100 metre swim, 5 km cycle and 1 km run, with the same distances for the 10 and 11 age category. In the 12 and 13 year-old category, as well as the 14-16 category, athletes will have a 200 metre swim with a 10 km cycle and a 2 km run. The 17 and 18 year-olds, as well as the adults will have a 400 metre swim, a 15 km cycle and a 3 km run. "Active living is a huge part of the triathlon," said Heather Todoschuk, Aqua Centre Supervisor. "It's always nice to have a goal to work towards. The Kids of Steel or Try a Tri is a nice way to work up to that. It is inclusive for all age groups and all ability levels." The Flin Flon event is now sanctioned with Triathlon Manitoba. All legs of the triathlon start and finnish at the Aqua Centre, and helmets must be worn during the cycle. Prizes will be awarded to the top finishers. Volunteers are always needed for this event. To volunteer or to register, contact the Aqua Centre at 681-7540.
