Kelly Carrington Staff Writer The SJHL has been busy with trades and announcements this offseason. Teams are preparing and building their rosters for the upcoming season. Here are some happenings throughout the league: McMillan's last stand He secured over 1,000 SJHL wins in 2008 and was enshrined into the SJHL Hall of Fame in 2009. But the 2012-13 season will be the last for Weyburn Red Wings coach Dwight McMillan. He signed a one-year extension for this coming season and has said it will be his final season as bench boss. McMillan has been a coach for 25 consecutive years. Hoffman heads west Jordan Hoffman of the Weyburn Red Wings has committed to Concordia University College of Alberta. While attending school, the former SJHLer will suit up for the Thunders in ACAC. Hoffman went from the Klippers to the Red Wings in November 2011 and quickly became a fan favourite, states the SJHL website. Hoffman picked up a Player of the Month award in December with five goals and 11 assists in the eight games he had played as a Red Wing. Hoffman was later named the Best Defensive Forward for the Red Wings. Lenard a Gator Former Mustang Bo Lenard made his mark in the SJHL and has now left to take a step up the hockey ladder. He has signed a pro contract with the Louisiana Ice Gators of the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL). In the SJHL, the Tisdale, Sask., native played a parts of five seasons with the Mustangs. Lenard was traded to the MJHL's Steinbach Pistons early in the 2011-12 season. He picked up 28 points in 37 games. A's get scholarships The Estevan Bruins chose two assistant captains wisely, as both have received scholarships. Matthew Dochylo recently signed with SAIT in Calgary to complete a four-year respiratory therapy program. While attending school, Dochylo will will be a wing man for the SAIT Trojans men's hockey team. Assistant captain Dominic Perrault also received a scholarship as he was recently recruited by the Mount Royal University Cougars men's hockey team in Calgary. Bombers on move The Bombers watch as three former Maroon and Whiters will continue their education and hockey careers. Former captain David Roper will dress with the University of Guelph Gryphons of the OUA. In 168 games with the Bombers, Roper picked up 56 points _ 11 goals and 45 assists _ as a defenceman. Jay Young joined the Bombers, following in his brother Michael's footsteps. Now Jay will join Dochylo in playing for the SAIT Trojans. In three seasons with the Bombers, Jay picked up 60 points _ 28 goals and 32 assists. Meanwhile, forward Jesse Mysiorek has accepted a scholarship from Simon Fraser University. As a Bomber, Mysiorek picked up seven goals and 12 assists in 22 games last season. He will join former Bomber Tyler Mah in the BCIHL.
