From March 5-7, the Atlanta area rinks teamed up to host the 2010 National Bound Qualifying Tournament, The Bob McCaig Cup. The tournament featured local players from the Cooler, the Ice Forum, and the MIC, with each rink hosting a tournament for a specific age bracket (Pee Wee-Midget). The action was fast paced and exciting all weekend long and was a great example of just how far the game has come here in Atlanta over the years. One of the people most responsible for the game's continued growth and improvement in the Southeast over the last 20-plus years was not only in attendance, but also the tournament's namesake, Bob McCaig. McCaig, a former Flin Flonner, has been involved with youth hockey development throughout North America for nearly 40 years and is the long time USA Hockey Coach-In-Chief for the Southeast District. Since coming to Atlanta in 1987, Bob's commitment to the sport of hockey in the Southeast has been unparalleled. Today, Bob continues to remain actively involved in many aspects of the game, including the USA Hockey Coaches Education Program, where he is able to pass on some of the knowledge and experience he has amassed over the years. He has earned countless awards recognizing his tireless efforts. But the thing that makes him so special is that whether he is working with first time player, parents, and coaches or players who have competed at the highest levels, his message always remains the same Ð "It's just a game."
