The first slo-pitch tournament of the season was held on the weekend, with a total of 10 teams participating in the fun tournament. A round robin was played on Friday and Saturday, with one game played in Creighton under the lights till nearly 1 a.m. on the first day of action. Playoffs started on Sunday morning, with all teams still in the hunt for the top spots. The most exciting game of the tournament perhaps was the extra-innings thriller between the Whiskey Hawgs and Multicrete. After seven innings, the game was still scoreless, as good defence and a strong wind kept the bats of both teams in check. The Whiskey Hawgs scored three runs in the top of the eighth to take the lead, and then held Multicrete to two runs in the bottom of the inning to advance to the B-side final. Meanwhile, in the A-side final, the group from The Pas, Perfect 10, defeated the Dirty Dozen to take the top prize. In the B-side final, the Vipers pulled ahead of the Whiskey Hawgs late in the game to to earn the victory. On a personal note, this was my first slo-pitch tournament, and I'd like to thank the Boart Whiskey Hawgs for inviting me to play on their team. I had a lot of fun, despite the fact that I lost a battle with a backstop on an in-the-park home run. I believe that I've successfully removed all of the crushed limestone from my head, and hopefully the rest of me heals in time for the next tournament.
