With over 50 NCAA scouts in attendance, the first ever SJHL Preseason Scholarship Tournament was a complete success. Not to mention the 30 WHL and Pro scouts that took in the games over the weekend. "We were lucky with the date," said coach Ryan Hoffman. "The Saskatoon Blades were holding a WHL Tournament at the same time that brought in the Pro scouts." With all the attention the tournament garnered the rink was jam-packed. "Quite frankly, the venue for the number of people there was two small," said Hoffman. Ideas have been thrown around to make the tournament better for next year. One idea was to move the tournament to the Jemini Arenas. With four ice surfaces, more games could be played and more people could attend. There is also some talk about holding the tournament in conjunction with the Saskatchewan Midget 'AAA' League. Word from the scouts was that if both leagues held a tournament at the same time, each school would send two scouts, immediately doubling the amount of exposure for the players. "The feedback that we got from the NCAA scouts was excellent," said Hoffman. "They loved it. It was a smashing success."
