Game three wasnÕt looking too good for the Bombers as the Battlefords North Stars tripled up on them in the first and second period. With two wins starting off their four-game road trip, the Bombers took a step back in WednesdayÕs game as the North Stars won 8-5. Battlefords gave the Bombers a run for their money and kept the goals coming with three in each of the first two periods. The Bombers tried to reclaim the lost goals, but couldnÕt get past Graham Hildebrand enough times. Matt Weninger started the game off between the pipes but was later switched for Ryan Kerpan, who joined the game late into the first period. The following is a summary of the game, played at the Civic Center: Weninger didnÕt know what was coming his way as the North Stars started their scoring off near the five-minute mark with a goal from Tom Kleidon. Ten minutes later, the Bombers found their sticks and Ben Bitz, with help from Josh Garneau, got past Hildebrand for the teamÕs first goal Ð tying things up at one. But that didnÕt last long as Mitch Wall broke the tie for the North Stars. And as the Bombers were trying to refocus, the North Stars did it again Ð this time Colton Graf got past Weninger just a few seconds later. The score sat at 3-1 for the North Stars by the end of the first period. But it wasnÕt for a lack of trying as the Bombers fired off 11 shots while Weninger saw 13 come his way. The second period looked up for the Bombers as Reid MacLeod scored the teamÕs second goal, making it 3-2 early in the period. With help from Garneau and Alex Lamontagne, MacLeod rattled the mesh on a power play at the 1:07 mark. But the BombersÕ glory was short lived once again as the North Stars scored another three goals. See 'Power' on pg. Continued from pg. Kerpan now held the reigns but was beat by Duane Muench, Kleidon and Wall, with two of the goals on power plays. In total, Kerpan saw the puck 14 times, while the Maroon and White fired off 13 on the Stars. More scoring came in the third period as the North Stars delivered two more goals before the Bombers found the back of the net three times. After Muench scored his second goal, on another power play, Graf was on the scoresheet for his second of the night. Working on a power play, MacLeod accepted a pass from Lamontagne and Patrick Sitko for the teamÕs third goal. As the score sat at 8-3, Dominic Martel bumped it up to four with help from Lamontagne and Tommy Castonguay, on yet another power play. And scoring the teamÕs final goal of the night, Castonguay accepted a pass, on a power play, from Sitko and MacLeod. The North Stars came out on top 8-5 with the shots being tied at 37. Next up, the Bombers are in Kindersley tonight and tomorrow night for their last games before the Christmas break.
