The Flin Flon Bombers concluded a four game road trip on Sunday afternoon, losing a 6-5 heartbreaker to the Weyburn Red Wings in overtime. A 60 minute effort may have saved the Bombers, but once again, the team came out flat in the first period, and also got into penalty trouble early. Shayne Emmons scored first for Weyburn at 15:09 of the first period, and Jereme Tendler made it 2-0 after the first period with a power-play goal at 18:34. The Bombers were out shot 17-6 in the opening frame. Rick Wood's goal at 1:18 of the first period gave the Red Wings a 3-0 lead, before Flin Flon would finally wake up and start their own attack. Like flicking a switch, the veterans came to life for the Bombers. See 'Take' P.# Con't from P.# Derek Gallagher scored his fifth power-play goal of the season at 6:31, with Joey Moggach and Craig Parks picking up the assists. Andrew Skrabek scored back-to-back, unassisted at 10:39 and then from Moggach and Simon McCusker at 14:03 on a power play. Craig Parks gave the Bombers the lead at 15:10 with a power-play goal from Ryan Boak. Shots in the second period were 9-9. Cody Wasik tied the game for Weyburn at 4:17 of the third period with an unassisted goal, but Jeff Lapointe replied for the Bombers from Craig Parks at 8:20. Things looked good for the Bombers as time wound down, but Shayne Emmons managed to get a shot by Troy Ciernia with just eight seconds remaining in regulation time to tie the game at 5-5 and force overtime. The Red Wings out shot the Bombers 16-7 in the third period. In OT, Kenny King was the hero for the Red Wings, scoring at the four-minute mark to give the Red Wings the extra point. Flin Flon was impressive during special teams play, scoring three times on eight chances and allowing only one goal on seven Weyburn power plays. While the Bombers would have liked to bring more points home on the road trip, it wasn't that long ago that a four-game trip meant another four losses for the Bombers. "We got off to a pretty good start in Melfort," said coach Ryan Hoffman. "We played hard and battled hard to sneak out of there with a point. We didn't play well in Notre Dame and that was disappointing, but we regrouped and battled hard again in Estevan. In Weyburn, we got off to a bit of a slow start, but we really dug in with a pretty gutsy effort to climb back from a 3-0 deficit." The Bombers stole a point out of Melfort, scoring to tie the game with the goaltender pulled, and then Weyburn turned the same trick on the Bombers on Sunday, scoring with their netminder sitting on the bench with eight seconds left to tie the game. "It would have been great to get four points and have a .500 weekend," said Hoffman. "To get the three points, as long as we're still getting points, we're pretty happy with that." The Bombers will have to face the red-hot La Ronge Ice Wolves on Saturday. The Wolves have been on a tear since letting go of assistant coach Todd Hornung recently. They have won six of their last ten games, including three in a row.
