SV Kopper Kweens coach Ken Kittle has his eyes on two teams: Thompson and MBCI in a pre-zone volleyball tournament starting today. On Wednesday, the SV Kopper Kweens coach had his team working on their passing and defensive game as they didn't play well in a tournament last weekend in Davidson, Saskatchewan. "If you can't get a pass, you can't get a hit or a point," Kittle says. With work to do in those areas, Kittle still feels his team has a chance to do well. "I'm hoping to be competitive and do a lot of hitting," he says, as he wants his team to be able to play on the same level as the other teams in the zones next weekend. With Kittle expecting both Thompson and MBCI to be his toughest opposition, he wants to see how much each team has improved and who their strong players are. "Ideally I would like to see us finish first or second in the pool (A)," Kittle says, as he watches his team do a drill. As the Kopper Kweens strive to finish in the top three, Kittle will rely on Jeanelle LeClair and Larrissa Row to provide strong play and hit the ball well. "I think if we really work hard, we can finish in the top three," LeClair says. "Second would be a bonus and first would be amazing." LeClair says the team has a lot of potential even though it's loaded with younger players. She added that it helps to have Row and Malorie Lican for leadership roles. The one area LeClair feels the team has troubles with is their fitness level, as the team tends to get tired, which leads to them making mistakes. This is an area she states that Kittle has been working with them on. "He works us hard in practice," she says. "We've been doing alright." The girls games are taking place at McIsaac School Ecole McIsaac and the boys play at Hapnot Collegiate.
