A group of paintball enthusiasts are putting $500 on the line at a tournament in August. The tournament is possibly the first of its kind for the Flin Flon area, and is being organized by the Thornhill Paintball Club, who do battle just outside of Channing. Five teams of up to ten people will compete in the one-day tournament, with a maximum of seven teams. The tournament will take place on Sunday, August 22 at the home base of the Thornhill group. Entry fees will be used to make up the top reward, but other prizes have been donated by local sponsors. Even with hundreds of paintballers and a half-dozen clubs in the area, it is not often that clubs get together with other clubs. The Thornhill Club is hoping to draw clubs together for a chance to compete. "Everybody has their own place to play, and people don't want to play anywhere else," said Joe Taylor on behalf of the Thornhill Club. "This is a good chance for everybody to get together for one day." The game will be capture the flag, played the way it was meant to be, in the natural northern environment. Instead of having two teams on the course and two flags, the playing field will be expanded to allow three teams and three flags at once. The object of the game will be to defend your flag while obtaining the flags of the other two teams. "We've done a lot of work at the site, cleaned up a lot of garbage, and spent a lot of time on it," said Taylor. For more information, contact Joe Taylor at 688-3311.6/8/04
