To all Flin Flon/Creighton/Denare Beach snowmobilers: The Border Explorers Snowmobile Club is writing this article to ask all snowmobilers, young and old alike, to please obey all snowmobile laws and bylaws of the Flin Flon, Creighton and surrounding area. The local police departments, city officials, and Club members have received many complaints in the past. Sledders have been observed racing up and down the streets during the day and, even worse, late at night. Riding is prohibited in parks and school grounds; please respect children and their safety. We also would like to ask that all riders please stay away from the local golf course and soccer fields. There is no reason to be riding in these areas, and can result in serious damage to the grass. Another area of concern is an aircraft runway, both on land and lakes. Close calls have been reported between aircraft and snowmobiles, and the ruts and gouges left in the packed snow by snowmobiles drag racing on these strips can result in deadly consequences if an aircraft wheel or ski is caught in them. Please refrain from snowmobiling in these areas. Altered exhausts, pipes, stingers, etc., are most often illegal and do offend some people. Please, if you must have these items on your sled, use them respectfully. There is a time and place for this type of riding. Ross Lake is not one of these places. If you must have one of these items, drive through the local area at slow speeds, making it as quiet as possible. Local snowmobilers have been legally able to use designed routes to leave the city and area, but we are getting very close to losing this privilege. Many people have worked hard in the past to obtain this benefit, let's not have a few spoil it for all. Also remember that volunteers do all local grooming, cleaning, and marking of trails. There is a lot of money that is raised and spent for equipment, fuel and supplies to make your snowmobiling enjoyable. Your help would be appreciated, or just a simple thank you to our volunteers would go a long way. Remember, these trails are designated for snowmobile use only. We would like to remind everyone that there will be snowmobile safety courses offered in the near future for anyone who would like to take them. The Border Explorers Snowmobile Club is a non-profit organization that is working hard to bring some winter fun to our community. We are looking forward to the new season, with new and improved ideas to make this Club and local snowmobiling more enjoyable. New members are always welcome and we meet on the first and third Tuesdays of every month. In closing, we would like to thank you for riding responsibly, and wish everyone safe snowmobiling.
