Safety course held for 12 and over Two Saskatchewan certified safety instructors from the Border Explorers recently taught 19 young riders at Creighton Community School (pictured, left). Any Saskatchewan resident born after 1989 must take the safety course in order to operate a snow machine in Saskatchewan. There will be another course offered in the New Year with details to follow Small groomers prove worthy The Border Explorers promised to do something about earlier grooming in the area. By purchasing two sleds and two small groomers (one of which is pictured, right) at a cost of over $13,000, they will be able to accomplish this. This year, the club will have the trails ready to go earlier than ever. With a small handful of volunteers and our groomer operator, Hervey Galbraith, they have been working very hard to prove themselves and we are hoping to have the south trails groomed for the holiday season. These new small outfits will be able to go over the lakes earlier than the Bombardier groomer because of the weight comparison. Now that the small outfits have been out, it will help drive down the ice, making it safer for the big groomer in the future. The Border Explorers have marked the south trail to Bakers Narrows and the south trail to Denare Beach. We will be marking the north trails in the next little while. Border Explorers is now in the process of setting up their own web page. This will keep the public informed of the club's activities, including when the trails have been last groomed. Check it out in the near future. We ask all riders to ride safe and abide by all rules, including having your sled registered with snopasses. For anyone interested in becoming a member, meetings are held the first Tuesday and third Tuesday of the month. For any information, can call President Dwayne Wenger at 688-7159 or John Trumbley at 688-6087. Season's Greetings, ride safe, and enjoy the holidays.
